DeForest built an early cushion and went on to a 6-0 conference victory over Baraboo on Wednesday, scoring three times in the first half and adding three more after halftime against the Thunderbirds at DeForest.
The Norskies took control early on a crisp spring evening and carried a 3-0 lead into halftime. Baraboo goalkeeper Rachel Wegner helped keep the match from getting further out of reach before the break, recording 13 first-half saves while facing steady pressure from the DeForest attack.
DeForest added another three goals in the second half, but Wegner continued to stand out for the Thunderbirds. She turned away 18 shots after halftime and finished with more than 30 saves on the night, compared with the six attempts that found the back of the net. Her work in goal was the clearest individual performance for Baraboo in a match defined by defensive resistance and physical play.
Although Baraboo did not break through offensively, the Thunderbirds competed through a demanding conference road match and spent long stretches absorbing pressure. The match summary reflected a physical performance from both sides, with Baraboo forced to defend consistently as DeForest generated repeated scoring chances in both halves.
In the end, the difference came from DeForest's fast start and its ability to add to the margin after the break. For Baraboo, Wegner's heavy workload and strong save total provided the most notable takeaway from a 6-0 loss as the Thunderbirds move on from a difficult road test.
