Portage took control early and never let Baraboo settle in Friday night, building a 3-0 halftime lead on the way to a 6-1 victory over the Thunderbirds at Poynette High School.
A strong Portage/Poynette United side came out aggressive from the opening whistle and kept pressure on Baraboo throughout the first half. The Thunderbirds struggled to connect passes consistently, and that early possession advantage helped Portage create the separation it carried into the break. Baraboo spent much of the night trying to absorb pressure and reset its shape.
Baraboo kept competing in the second half and eventually found a breakthrough from Annie Carroll. Carroll, wearing No. 14, scored the Thunderbirds' lone goal when she finished a rebound off a corner kick, turning one of Baraboo's best attacking moments into a late highlight. The sequence provided a reward for a team that continued to push forward even while trailing.
The final margin reflected Portage's sustained attack, but Baraboo's effort remained steady despite the deficit. The Thunderbirds never gave up on the pitch, continuing to chase loose balls and look for chances after halftime. Carroll's finish stood out as the top individual moment for Baraboo in a difficult road match.
Baraboo finished with one goal on a night when Portage's fast start proved decisive. The Thunderbirds will look to clean up their passing and build on the attacking spark that produced Carroll's goal as the season moves forward.
