Thunderbirds Edge Portage in Thrilling Baseball Showdown
On a beautiful evening at Mary Rountree Evans Park on April 25, the Baraboo Thunderbirds narrowly defeated the Portage Warriors with a final score of 6-5. Baraboo's victory was clinched by pivotal plays and strategic advantages that unfolded on their home turf. Led by standout performances from Peyton Poker and Owen Rogers, the Thunderbirds showcased their skill by maintaining a strong offensive and defensive game. Peyton Poker notably hit an inside-the-park home run and scored crucial runs in both the first and fourth innings, while Owen Rogers contributed scores in the third and fourth. Brody Bjorklund also added significant momentum by scoring in the third inning and joining Rogers to drive in critical runs throughout the game. The game's key moment came in the bottom of the fourth when Baraboo captured a 5-3 lead, spearheaded by singles from Poker and Rogers. An additional run by Baraboo in the bottom of the sixth solidified the victory. The Thunderbirds also turned a crucial double play, highlighting their defensive prowess. Starting pitcher Cyrus Mahoney played a pivotal role in keeping the Warriors at bay, setting the stage for Baraboo's offensive rallies to shine. Looking forward, the Thunderbirds are set to face the Warriors again on April 27 at Portage High School. The rematch promises to be another nail-biter as Baraboo looks to continue their winning momentum against their familiar rivals.
