Thunderbirds Stumble in Rivalry Football Game Against Reedsburg

The historic rivalry between the Baraboo Thunderbirds and Reedsburg Beavers marked its 138th meeting on September 26, 2023, at Millenium Field in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. The football match, integral to the battle for the 'Old River Jug,' ended with the Thunderbirds facing a tough defeat with a final score of 49-7 in favor of the Beavers. The game began under a clear, starry night, following warm and sunny conditions during warm-ups. Reedsburg took an early advantage, utilizing their Flex Bone Double Wing Offense effectively. The Beavers scored first on a 62-yard touchdown run, setting the pace for the remainder of the half. By halftime, the Beavers led decisively at 35-0 including running in a well drawn up wing back counter play for 80 yards going into halftime. In the second half, with a running clock in hand, Reedsburg continued their offensive dominance, executing a short yardage touchdown run and a reverse play by their JV team, ultimately sealing their continued possession of the 'River Jug'. For Baraboo, the only touchdown came late in the final quarter from Peyton Poker, who found an opportunity to breach Reedsburg's defense on a designed QB boot play. Throughout the game, Poker also managed to complete several passes to both Drake Niles and Ethan Hueselmann, despite throwing an interception late in the first half. Ethan Hueselmann notably led as the primary ball carrier for the Thunderbirds.
