Thunderbirds Take Varsity and JV Titles in Conference Dual at Sauk Prairie

Baraboo’s gymnastics program swept both varsity and junior varsity team titles in a conference dual against Sauk Prairie on Wednesday at Grand Avenue Elementary School, powered by strong all-around efforts and standout routines on beam and floor.

The Thunderbirds’ varsity squad claimed first place with a team score of 126.3, while the JV lineup also finished first with 111.25. On a night highlighted by consistency across all four events, Baraboo turned in top-three finishes on every apparatus and secured the top two spots in the all-around competition.

On vault, Baraboo set an early tone. Julia Laux led the way with a first-place score of 8.25, giving the Thunderbirds an immediate boost. She was followed closely by teammates Hadley Porter and Jaiden Bristow, who tied for second with matching 8.1 efforts, giving Baraboo a sweep of the top three vault positions.

The momentum carried to uneven bars, where Hadley continued her strong night with a second-place finish, scoring 8.075. She was joined on the podium by teammate Lacey Bender, who earned third with a 7.15. The pair’s work on bars helped the Thunderbirds extend their advantage in the team standings.

Beam proved to be one of Baraboo’s strongest events. Zeva Valley delivered a standout routine to win the event with a 9.275, the highest event score of the meet. Hadley added another top-three performance, securing third place with a 7.575 as the Thunderbirds continued to stack critical points.

On floor exercise, Baraboo again dominated the podium. Zeva captured her second event title of the night with a 9.0, while Hadley followed in second with an 8.7. Charlotte Bavlnka rounded out the sweep, placing third with an 8.5 as the Thunderbirds turned in some of their most polished tumbling and dance work of the meet.

Those performances translated directly into all-around success. Hadley claimed the all-around title with a 32.45, capping a meet that included podium finishes on three events. Zeva finished close behind in second with a 32.375, fueled by her event wins on beam and floor. Together, their efforts anchored Baraboo’s varsity victory and highlighted the depth and balance across the Thunderbirds’ lineup.

With both varsity and JV earning first-place finishes, Baraboo leaves the conference dual with momentum and confidence heading into the heart of the season, backed by multiple gymnasts capable of delivering meet-winning routines on any apparatus.
