Thunderbirds Triumph in Badger Conference Varsity Baseball Game
In a thrilling comeback during yesterday's Badger Conference baseball game, the Baraboo Varsity Thunderbirds overcame the Stoughton Vikings with a final score of 10-6. The Thunderbirds continue to show improved play in the second half of the season, raising their overall record to 7-13. The game started tough for Baraboo, trailing 4-1 after the first inning. However, the turning point came in the top of the 4th inning when Baraboo scored 7 runs, turning a 4-run deficit into a lead they would hold onto for the rest of the game. Nathan Gneiser was particularly effective, scoring 3 of Baraboo's runs, while Brody Bjorklund added 2 more. Owen Rogers, along with Cyrus Mahoney, Brady Bauer, and Adam Schlender, also contributed to the scoring, solidifying the team's offensive efforts. Owen Rogers led in RBIs, driving in 3 runs, followed by Brady Bauer and Brody Bjorklund who knocked in 2 runs each. Cyrus Mahoney started as pitcher, setting an initial pace, but it was Brady Bauer's 5 innings of strong relief pitching that was crucial in keeping Stoughton at bay after the 2nd inning. Additionally, Rogers' 3 hits and Gneiser's reaching base 4 times highlighted their individual performances. The Baraboo Varsity Thunderbirds are looking forward to their next game, a rematch against the Stoughton Vikings on May 23, 2025, at Mary Rountree Evans Park. The team hopes to carry forward their momentum and secure another win to improve their standing this season.
