Berea-Midpark Edges North Olmsted 3-2 Behind Carly Kotecki's Decisive Win

Berea-Midpark secured a 3-2 home victory over North Olmsted on Thursday, Aug. 27, with Carly Kotecki completing a 2 1/2-hour comeback at third singles to clinch the match. The Titans collected one singles point and swept the two varsity doubles matches in mainly clear, 79-degree conditions in Middleburg Heights, Ohio.

With the team result hanging in the balance, Carly Kotecki recovered after dropping a tight opening set to win 6-7 (5), 6-4, 10-4. The third-singles match required a decisive tiebreaker, and Carly Kotecki controlled that final stage to officially deliver the Titans' third point and the team victory.

Berea-Midpark established its advantage through strong doubles play. Ella Weth and Brynn Siedlecki earned a straight-set victory at first doubles, winning 6-4, 6-2. Lilly Jones and Anabelle Borngen followed with another straight-set result at second doubles, taking their match 6-3, 7-5. Their second set was the closer test, but the Titans' pairing finished the final games to complete the doubles sweep.

North Olmsted earned its two points in the top singles positions. Nikol Mojsoska battled through an especially close opening set at first singles before falling 6-7 (6), 3-6. At second singles, Marilyn Gulliford also competed in a difficult matchup and came up short 3-6, 1-6. Those results placed added importance on the third-singles contest and the Titans' success in doubles.

The Titans also received winning performances in junior varsity doubles. Lea Ventrone and Layla Smith teamed for one victory, while Kaylynn Harvath and Khloie Wagner added another. The varsity result remained undecided until Carly Kotecki finished the 10-4 tiebreaker, closing a long afternoon with Berea-Midpark's decisive third point.
