Berea-Midpark Ties for Fifth Behind Harrington’s 79 at Mayfield CC Invitational

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - Berea-Midpark placed in a tie for fifth among 12 teams at the Mayfield CC Invitational on Monday, Sept. 21, combining four counting scores for a 331. Thomas Harrington led the Titans with a 79, while Luke Higgins followed one stroke behind with an 80.
The Titans contended with a strong field, rain and a demanding course at Mayfield CC. The varsity tournament began at 1 p.m., with the temperature at 63 degrees and winds around 10 mph. Berea-Midpark remained steady enough through the difficult conditions to earn a finish in the top half of the team standings.
Harrington recorded Berea-Midpark’s lowest round of the day, breaking 80 to set the pace for the Titans. Higgins’ 80 kept the two leading Berea-Midpark scores separated by only one shot. Oliver Marcelo and Gavin Wagner each carded an 86, giving the Titans four counting rounds within seven strokes of one another.
Those four scores added up exactly to Berea-Midpark’s 331. The balance behind Harrington and Higgins helped the Titans secure their tie for fifth despite the challenging course and changing weather. Harrington and Higgins combined for a 159, while Marcelo and Wagner supplied matching rounds to complete the team total.
St. Ignatius won the invitational with a 305, finishing one stroke ahead of runner-up Ottawa Hills at 306. Berea-Midpark ended 26 strokes behind the champion, but its four-score consistency produced a top-five tie against the 12-team field, highlighted by Harrington’s sub-80 round and Higgins’ 80.
