Titan Cross Country Shows Up And Shows Out At Their Championship Meet
Berea-Midpark High School placed sixth in both varsity races and fourth in both junior varsity races at the Southwestern Conference (SWC) Championships on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Lorain County Community College in Elyria. Sophomore Gavin Vozar led the boys varsity team with a stellar seventh-place finish. Senior Harper Johnson paced the girls varsity team, coming in 28th.
The Titans worked through cold, muddy conditions with strong pack running, keeping teammates close and morale up as runners crossed the finish line alongside their peers. Behind Vozar, freshman Cody McMillen finished 26th and junior Gabe Hierro followed in 27th, giving the boys varsity team consecutive finishers among its top three.
The girls varsity team also had two of its leading runners finish in succession. Senior Sophia Soloman placed 31st, and junior Emily Lane finished 32nd behind Johnson. Those performances completed the Titans’ top three in the girls varsity race.
Freshman Ryan Yurgalewicz led the JV team in 12th place, followed by sophomores Riley Richards in 25th and Anthony Seidel in 34th. In the girls' JV race, junior Somiya Galarza finished 30th to lead Berea-Midpark. Freshmen Evie Eisner and Alana Delgado followed in 34th and 36th, respectively, as both JV squads secured fourth-place team finishes.
Congratulations to Vozar and Yurgalewicz on receiving medals at the meet's conclusion.
But the team's positive attitude wouldn't have been made possible if not for the Cross Country Boosters. Special thanks to Tim and Jyl Rhoden, who provided hot chocolate and donuts to our esteemed runners after their chilly races.
The season closes with the JV meet at Garfield Park in Mentor on Monday, Oct. 26, and a regional meet for the top seven varsity athletes at Boardman High School on Saturday, Oct. 31, as the seniors near the end of their final season.
