FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio - Berea-Midpark earned its first boys golf victory over Avon Lake since the district merger Monday, winning a sixth-man tiebreaker after the Titans and Shoremen finished level with team scores of 156.

Oliver Marcelo and Gavin Wagner led Berea-Midpark with rounds of 38. Thomas Harrington followed with a 39, and Luke Higgins completed the Titans' four-player scoring total with a 41. The four cards added up to 156, matching Avon Lake and forcing the result to be decided by the teams' additional players.

Luke Silva kept Berea-Midpark even in the first stage of the tiebreaker. Silva shot a 42, matching the score posted by Avon Lake's fifth golfer. That pushed the decision to the sixth scores in a match that remained tied beyond the standard team totals.

Coach Cook, “The kids really fought hard for this win, especially since it was Senior Night. We are hoping to ride this momentum and finish 2026 off strong”

Ryley Mason then supplied the decisive advantage. Mason recorded a 43, one stroke better than Avon Lake's sixth score of 44, to give the Titans the victory. Although Mason's round was not part of Berea-Midpark's four counting scores, it became the card that separated the teams.

The win combined balanced scoring at the top of the lineup with the depth needed to settle the tie. Marcelo and Wagner shared team-low honors, Harrington finished one stroke behind them, and Higgins kept all four counting rounds at 41 or better. Silva and Mason then carried the Titans through the tiebreaker, with Mason's one-stroke edge securing a milestone result against the Shoremen.

The match was played in mainly clear conditions in Fairview Park. After 18 team-counting strokes could not separate the sides, Berea-Midpark's depth delivered the program's long-awaited breakthrough against Avon Lake.
