Titans Finish Ninth at OHSAA Golf Sectionals Behind Marcelo’s 84

BEREA, Ohio - Berea-Midpark High School finished ninth among 15 Northeast Ohio teams with a score of 352 at the OHSAA boys golf sectionals Monday, Sept. 28, in LaGrange, Ohio. Oliver Marcelo led the Titans with an 84 as the team fell short of advancing to districts.
Gavin Wagner and Thomas Harrington each shot 89, tying for the Titans’ second-lowest score. Luke Silva added a 90 to complete the four counting rounds. Marcelo finished five strokes ahead of Wagner and Harrington, and the Titans’ counting scores were separated by six strokes from lowest to highest.
Medina won the sectional with a 323, edging St. Ed’s by two strokes. Olmsted Falls followed with a 327, while Avon shot 335 to secure the fourth district qualifying spot. The Titans finished 29 strokes behind Medina and 17 behind Avon’s qualifying total in the 15-team field.
The sectional brought the Titans’ season to a close despite confidence in their preparation. Coach Cook pointed to missed execution and putts that did not fall as factors in the result. The team entered the competition feeling prepared both in its play and mentally, but could not turn that preparation into a qualifying score.
Play began at 10 a.m. under partly cloudy skies with a temperature of 64 degrees and winds of 6 mph. Beyond the four counting rounds, Luke Higgins finished with a 93, rounding out the Titans’ five individual scores.
