BEREA, Ohio - Berea-Midpark battled through a pair of deficits and finished with a determined fifth-set push Tuesday, defeating Amherst 3-2 in a thrilling home match. The Titans prevailed 26-28, 25-21, 20-25, 25-18, 15-12, turning away Amherst after five competitive sets at Berea-Midpark High School.
The Titans came within two points of taking an extended opening set before Amherst escaped with a 28-26 win. Berea-Midpark responded immediately rather than allowing the narrow setback to linger. Stronger execution helped the Titans claim the second set 25-21 and even the match, giving the home side fresh momentum.
Amherst regained the advantage with a 25-20 victory in the third set, leaving Berea-Midpark one set away from defeat. The Titans answered with one of their strongest stretches of the match. Behind steady serving, organized offense and determined work at the net and in the back row, Berea-Midpark controlled the fourth set 25-18 to force a decisive fifth.
With the match reduced to a race to 15, the Titans maintained their composure and earned the final separation in a 15-12 victory. Brooklyn Kovatch helped direct the attack with 30 assists and also applied pressure from the service line with four aces. Ashlyn Anderson led the offense with 16 kills, repeatedly giving Berea-Midpark an option to finish points during the five-set battle.
Reaghan Beyer anchored the Titans' defense with 16 digs, helping extend rallies and creating additional attacking chances. Those individual performances were supported by a complete team effort, as every Berea-Midpark player contributed to a victory that required resilience after losses in both the first and third sets. The response in the final two sets showcased the persistence and collective energy that carried the program across the finish line.
The Titans will next travel to face Midview at 6:00 p.m. EDT on Thursday, August 27, 2026. Berea-Midpark will look to carry forward the poise it displayed while closing Tuesday's five-set win.
