Titans Sweep Amherst Behind Gritty Second-Set Comeback

Berea-Midpark delivered a complete road performance Tuesday night, sweeping Amherst 3-0 with set victories of 25-14, 28-26 and 25-20 in Amherst. Strong offense and steady serve-receive established the Titans early, while determined defense and extended serving runs powered the comeback that defined the match.
The Titans set the tone with an impressive opening set. Their serve-receive helped keep the offense in rhythm, creating opportunities for clean swings and well-placed attacks. Berea-Midpark paired that offensive execution with consistent play throughout the rotation, pulling away for a decisive 25-14 victory and a 1-0 match lead.
Amherst presented a much different challenge in the second set, building a 19-14 advantage and putting Berea-Midpark under pressure. The Titans responded with grit. Their defense elevated its play, extending rallies and creating chances for long serving runs. Berea-Midpark erased the five-point deficit, battled back to tie the set and stayed composed through the extra points before securing a pivotal 28-26 win.
That comeback gave the Titans a 2-0 advantage and plenty of momentum entering the third set, but they still had to finish the job. Berea-Midpark again leaned on its offense, continuing to apply pressure while maintaining the fight that carried the team through the second set. The Titans closed the match with a 25-20 victory, completing the sweep and capping an encouraging performance built on execution, resilience and teamwork.
The straight-set result showcased several strengths for Berea-Midpark, from the sharp serve-receive that fueled the opening-set offense to the defense and serving that changed the second set. Most importantly, the Titans answered adversity together and carried that response through the finish. Berea-Midpark returns home to face Midview at 6 p.m. EDT Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, at Berea-Midpark High School.
