Berea-Midpark’s varsity boys golf team fell to rival Olmsted Falls 149-170 on Thursday at Dragon Ranch Golf Club, with Gavin Wagner leading the Titans by shooting a 40. The 21-stroke loss dropped Berea-Midpark to 2-2 in Southwestern Conference play.

The Titans played through clear skies, an 88-degree temperature and winds reaching 20 mph. Gavin Wagner produced Berea-Midpark’s lowest round of the match, giving the Titans their best individual score against an Olmsted Falls lineup that combined for the lower team total.

Luke Silva followed with a 42, two strokes behind the team leader. Thomas Harrington and Ryley Mason each shot 44, giving Berea-Midpark a balanced group of counting scores. Those four rounds combined for the Titans’ team total of 170.

The consistency behind the team’s top score kept the Berea-Midpark rounds within a four-stroke range, but Olmsted Falls’ total of 149 created the decisive separation. The result left the Titans with an even conference record after four SWC matches.

Berea-Midpark will now turn its attention from conference match play to a tournament field. The Titans are scheduled to compete in the Midview Invitational on Sept. 8 at Columbia Hills Country Club.

The invitational gives Gavin Wagner, Luke Silva, Harrington, Mason and the Titans an opportunity to build on Thursday’s tightly grouped individual scores while preparing for the next stage of their schedule.
