Hilly Hills: Ventures Run at Hilly Kensington Metropark
Gavin Samona led Bishop Foley Catholic High School with a 147th-place finish in a field of 224 runners Saturday, Oct. 3, at Kensington Metropark. He finished in 19:47.6, while Finnegan McGlinchey followed as the Ventures’ second finisher in 190th place with a time of 21:33.4.
The very hilly course presented a terrain challenge for the Ventures’ four runners. Samona, competing in his second cross country season with the program, recorded the team’s only finish under 20 minutes. His time put him 1 minute, 45.8 seconds ahead of McGlinchey among the Bishop Foley finishers.
McGlinchey, also in his second season, led the closest-spaced pair of finishes for the Ventures. Otis Pogodzinski crossed in 22:06.3, just 32.9 seconds behind him. Those results gave Bishop Foley three runners with finishing times under 23 minutes despite the course’s hills.
For Pogodzinski, the race added a hilly-course result to his first season of cross country with the Ventures. He was the third Bishop Foley runner to finish, joining second-year runners Samona and McGlinchey at the front of the team’s results.
The four-runner group represented three levels of experience within the program, from Pogodzinski’s first season to Jeremy Slotnick’s third. Slotnick rounded out the Ventures’ finishes at Kensington Metropark with a time of 29:02.9.
