Improvement Equals Success: Ventures Improve at Parkway Christian Meet
Gavin Samona led Bishop Foley Catholic on a fast, flat course Saturday, clocking a season-best 19 minutes, 37.4 seconds. Samona recorded the team’s fastest time in the Black Division, where Bishop Foley placed three runners within less than two minutes of one another.
The Sept. 26 meet was split into Black and Yellow divisions, giving runners separate fields in which to test their pace. Mainly clear skies, a temperature of 68 degrees and light wind accompanied the start. The level terrain created an opportunity for the Ventures to run aggressively and measure their progress without significant elevation changes.
Finnegan McGlinchey stayed close to Samona in the Black Division and finished in 19:45.9. The two second-year Bishop Foley runners crossed the line only 8.5 seconds apart, giving the Ventures a strong pairing at the front of their group. Their proximity showed the value of pack running, with Samona setting the team pace and McGlinchey maintaining contact through the finish.
Otis Pogodzinski added a breakthrough performance in the Black Division. The first-year Ventures runner completed the course in a personal-best 21:20.9, finishing 1:35 behind McGlinchey. His result extended Bishop Foley’s scoring group and marked another step forward during his first cross country season.
Jeremy Slotnick represented the Ventures in the Yellow Division and ran a season-best 27:04.7. The third-year runner’s improvement gave Bishop Foley another encouraging result across the meet’s two-division format and reflected the progress developing throughout the team.
With Samona and Slotnick lowering their season marks and Pogodzinski establishing a new personal best, the Ventures left the meet with measurable gains from multiple runners. Samona and McGlinchey’s close finish also provided a clear example of the pack strength Bishop Foley can continue building as the season progresses.
