One Personal Best and Two Season Bests For Ventures
Bishop Foley Catholic High School’s boys cross country team recorded a personal best and two season bests Saturday, Oct. 17, at Hudson Mills Metropark, led by top finishers Finnegan McGlinchey and Gavin Samona. The race featured a field of 123 runners.
McGlinchey finished 50th in 18:54.2, setting a personal best during his second season with the Ventures. He was the first of the team’s two leading finishers to cross the line, with Samona following three places behind. McGlinchey’s finish put him inside the top half of the field while establishing a new benchmark for his cross country career.
Samona placed 53rd in 18:57.6, delivering his fastest performance of the season. Also in his second season with the Ventures, he finished just 3.4 seconds behind McGlinchey. Their closely spaced finishes gave Bishop Foley two runners under 19 minutes, with only two competitors crossing between them in the final standings.
Jeremy Slotnick added a season-best 24:40.4 in his third season with the program. Beyond the times, passing competitors was a focus of the Ventures’ race approach. Slotnick said every member of the team passed runners during the race, carrying out the coach’s direction to keep moving forward through the field.
