Three Runners Set Personal Bests for the Ventures at Springfield Oaks County Park

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Bishop Foley Catholic placed five runners across the finish line, led by Grace Sipp and Nora McGlinchey, in a 109-runner race Saturday morning at Springfield Oaks County Park. Sipp paced the Ventures with a time of 24 minutes, 29.88 seconds to finish 76th, while McGlinchey followed in 88th place with a personal-best 25:33.56.
The Ventures produced three personal-best performances while competing in light rain and a temperature of 57 degrees. McGlinchey began a strong three-runner grouping for Bishop Foley, with Sophia Shoemake finishing in a personal-best 26:54.46 and Claire Jeakle crossing in a personal-best 27:18.88.
That pack gave Bishop Foley a steady presence through the middle of the field. Only 1:45.32 separated McGlinchey, Shoemake and Jeakle, and Shoemake finished just 24.42 seconds ahead of Jeakle. Their close spacing reflected one of the Ventures’ strongest elements in the race, as the trio maintained contact and completed the course in succession.
Sipp, running in her third cross country season with the Ventures, established the team’s pace at the front. Her 24:29.88 finish put her more than a minute ahead of Bishop Foley’s second runner. McGlinchey, in her first season with the program, supplied the next scoring position while lowering her personal standard.
Shoemake, a second-year runner, added another significant performance with her career-best mark. Jeakle continued the personal-best trend during her first cross country season, giving Bishop Foley three consecutive finishers under 27:19. Zoe Sullivan completed the Ventures’ lineup in 30:08.60, providing the team’s fifth finisher on a cool, wet morning.
With three career-best times and a compact middle pack, Bishop Foley left Springfield Oaks with measurable progress across its lineup. Sipp’s team-leading finish set the standard, while McGlinchey, Shoemake and Jeakle showed the depth developing behind her.
