Finnegan McGlinchey and Gavin Samona led Bishop Foley Catholic High School with consecutive top-20 finishes at the CHSL Cardinal Division Championship on Friday, October 23, at Willow Metropark. McGlinchey earned an all-academic medal. The Ventures’ top two runners placed 17th and 18th, respectively, in the field of 46.

McGlinchey, wearing bib number 1975, crossed the finish line in 19:11.9, followed by Samona, wearing bib number 1977, who crossed the finish line in 19:22.7. Their adjacent finishes put both runners in the 16th-through-20th-place range that earned all-league medals. Separated by 10.8 seconds, the second-season teammates gave Bishop Foley a closely spaced pair at the front of its finishing order.

"We raced great. I am proud of myself and my teammates."

The championship honors followed medal-winning performances by both runners earlier in the month. At the 5th NCA Small School Invite on Tuesday, October 13, at MSU Tollgate Farms, McGlinchey placed 15th out of 83 and Samona finished 17th. Each earned a medal for placing in the top 30, giving both runners recognition at two October meets.

Behind the leading pair, Otis Pogodzinski, wearing bib number 1976, completed the championship race in 23:26.1 during his first season with the Ventures. Jeremy Slotnick, in his third cross country season, followed in 29:10.3. He wore bib number 1978. Among Bishop Foley’s four runners, Pogodzinski recorded the third-fastest time and Slotnick posted the fourth-fastest time.
