Ventures Earn Medals at MSU Tollgate Farms
Finnegan McGlinchey and Gavin Samona earned medals for Bishop Foley Catholic High School’s boys cross country team Tuesday, October 13, in Novi, finishing 15th and 17th, respectively, in a field of 83 runners. The Ventures competed in 83-degree heat at the meet, which began at 4:40 p.m.
McGlinchey led the Ventures with a time of 21:10.4, while Samona followed in 21:21.7. Just 11.3 seconds separated the teammates at the finish, with one runner placing between them. Their closely spaced results gave Bishop Foley two medalists among the first 17 finishers, and both runners finished in the top quarter of the field.
Both medalists are in their second season running cross country with the Ventures. McGlinchey secured the team’s top individual finish, and Samona’s result placed another Bishop Foley runner near the front of the 83-runner race. Their finishing positions and narrow time gap marked the leading performances for the Ventures on a hot afternoon.
Conditions were mainly clear, with winds of 17 mph accompanying the heat. The temperature at the start was just one degree below the day’s high of 84. Complementing the medalists Jeremy Slotnick, competing in his third cross country season with the Ventures, completed the race in 35:26.2.
