Ventures Improve at Rainy Springfield Oaks County Park
Finnegan McGlinchey set a personal best and led the Bishop Foley Catholic boys cross country team Saturday at Springfield Oaks County Park, finishing 92nd in a field of 140 runners. McGlinchey completed the race in 19 minutes, 45.09 seconds, the fastest reported time for the Ventures.
Gavin Samona followed with a time of 20:20.11, placing 103rd overall. McGlinchey and Samona formed the front of Bishop Foley’s lineup, finishing 35.02 seconds apart as the Ventures navigated moderate rain and a race-time temperature of 57 degrees.
McGlinchey’s performance marked another step forward in his second season with the program. His personal-best effort put him inside the top two-thirds of the field and gave Bishop Foley its top individual finish. Samona, also in his second cross country season with the Ventures, finished 11 places behind McGlinchey while giving the team a second runner near the 20-minute mark.
Jeremy Slotnick added a season-best performance for Bishop Foley, crossing the finish line in 27:48.83. The result continued the third-year runner’s progress and gave each of the Ventures’ three reported finishers a significant mark from the meet, including one personal best and one season best.
The top pairing of McGlinchey and Samona provided Bishop Foley’s closest reported grouping, with both finishing within the first 103 runners in the 140-athlete field. McGlinchey’s breakthrough under wet conditions highlighted the day, while Samona’s steady finish and Slotnick’s season-best time gave the Ventures multiple performances to build on after the race at Springfield Oaks County Park.
