Ventures Improve Rapidly at Stony Creek Metropark
SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Bishop Foley Catholic placed two runners in the top half of the 60-runner field Thursday, Sept. 10, as Finnegan McGlinchey led the Ventures with an 18th-place finish at Stony Creek Metropark. McGlinchey completed the race in 19 minutes, 59.29 seconds, giving Bishop Foley a sub-20-minute performance at the front of its lineup.
Gavin Samona provided the Ventures’ second top-30 result, placing 27th in 21:00.25. His finish put Bishop Foley’s first two runners among the top 45% of the field and gave the team two established scoring positions in a race that featured 60 competitors.
McGlinchey set the pace for Bishop Foley, and Samona followed 1:00.96 behind him. That front pairing shaped the Ventures’ race strategy, with McGlinchey pushing below the 20-minute mark and Samona maintaining a place in the upper half of the standings.
Otis Pogodzinski completed Bishop Foley’s three-runner effort with a personal-best time of 24:06.36. Pogodzinski’s improvement was another significant result for the Ventures, adding an individual milestone to the team’s two top-half finishes.
The three performances formed a staggered Bishop Foley pack, beginning with McGlinchey at the front and continuing through Samona and Pogodzinski. McGlinchey and Samona were separated by just over a minute, while Pogodzinski crossed 3:06.11 after Samona to complete the Ventures’ finish.
The race began at 4:45 p.m. under clear skies, with the temperature at 77 degrees and winds at 10 mph. Bishop Foley left Stony Creek Metropark with a top-20 performance from McGlinchey, another top-30 finish from Samona and a new personal standard for Pogodzinski. The next meet for the Ventures is the CHSL Cardinal Division Jamboree #1 on Wednesday, September 16th, at 4:30 P.M. at Historic Fort Wayne.
