Bishop Foley Catholic High School scored five unanswered second-half goals to defeat The Roughriders 8-3 in soccer on Tuesday, Oct. 20th. Michael Ruzycki led the Ventures with four goals. The second-half scoring broke open a match that had been tied at halftime, giving Bishop Foley a five-goal victory after an evenly matched opening half on the scoreboard.
Ruzycki opened the scoring with the first goal of the match. The Ventures scored three times before halftime, but the Roughriders matched that total to send the teams into the break at 3-3. All of Roeper's scoring came during that opening half, leaving Bishop Foley to settle the match over the final half.
Carmelo Martinez and Max Ensley supplied two goals apiece, joining Ruzycki. Their combined four goals matched Ruzycki's individual total, giving Bishop Foley multiple finishing options in an eight-goal performance. The Ventures increased their scoring output from three goals in the first half to five in the second half.
Bishop Foley also kept Roeper off the scoreboard throughout the second half. That shutout half allowed each Ventures goal after the break to extend the advantage without a reply from the Roughriders. Martinez scored the final goal of the match. The Ventures now move deeper into the playoffs.
