Bishop Foley Catholic High School’s Ventures recorded a personal best and finishes of 28th and 38th in a 103-runner field Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Columbus County Park. Finnegan McGlinchey ran a personal-best 19:14.02, while Gavin Samona, wearing bib number 2983, finished 38th in 19:58.49.
The flat course provided the setting for Finnegan McGlinchey’s improvement. Competing with bib number 2981, Finnegan McGlinchey established a new personal standard with the 19:14.02 effort. That time also corresponded to the meet’s reported 28th-place finish, putting the mark comfortably inside the top third of the field.
Samona’s 38th-place performance gave the Ventures another finish in the top half of the field. In his second cross country season with the team, Samona finished under 20 minutes. The 28th- and 38th-place marks were separated by 44.47 seconds, providing two individual benchmarks from the afternoon.
Jeremy Slotnick completed the course in 26:50.07 while wearing bib 2984. This was a season best for him. This added another improvement alongside Finnegan McGlinchey’s personal best. Those individual gains highlighted the Ventures’ afternoon on the flat layout.
