Unity Seats Brings Butler County Together at Mars Football Game
The Butler and Chartiers Valley will meet under the lights Thursday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. at Mars Area High School, with the evening carrying a purpose that reaches beyond football. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Slupe will take part in the game through US Unity Seats program, bringing residents and law enforcement together for a shared night of community pride.
Through US partnership with local members of the Sheriff’s Unity Network, Unity Seats will pair law enforcement leaders with community members, including people who may hold opposing viewpoints. The program purchases tickets and seats participants together, giving them the chance to cheer side by side, talk with one another and experience the game as neighbors rather than adversaries. Families and other community members will also share in an atmosphere grounded in mutual respect and support.
Slupe will help open the game by performing the ceremonial coin toss. He will also spend time meeting local families and recognizing fellow first responders, adding moments of gratitude and reflection to the energy of a high school football matchup. For those participating in Unity Seats, the evening will create space for personal connections that can continue long after the final whistle.
The Mars game is part of US national effort to bring Unity Seats to nearly 100 high school football games in recognition of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The initiative reflects the belief that Americans can come together today with the same spirit of unity felt 25 years ago, while honoring first responders and strengthening relationships within local communities.
Football will provide the setting, but connection will be the heart of the evening. By sharing seats, conversations and support for the young athletes on the field, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, local families and community members will demonstrate how a common experience can help bridge differences and build trust.
