Central Lake (10-8, 7-8 SV) battled Inland Lakes (18-2, 14-1 SV) through three quarters before a short-handed roster and an injury shifted the momentum in a 62-38 road loss Tuesday night in Indian River. The Trojans trailed by single digits for much of the contest, but a decisive Inland Lakes run late in the third quarter and into the fourth created separation that Central Lake could not overcome.
Inland Lakes established a narrow early advantage, leading 11-7 after the first quarter and 24-19 at halftime. Central Lake continued to compete on both ends, staying within striking distance despite limited rotations. The contest remained largely back-and-forth until an injury further reduced the Trojans’ already shortened bench, forcing players into extended minutes and difficult defensive matchups.
The turning point arrived late in the third quarter. Inland Lakes used a surge to outscore Central Lake 20-14 in the frame, stretching what had been a manageable deficit into double digits. That momentum carried into the fourth quarter, where Inland Lakes closed the game with a 13-5 advantage to seal the 62-38 final. Central Lake continued to defend and compete, but the combination of fatigue and limited substitutions made it difficult to mount a final push.
Despite the result, several Trojans delivered notable performances. Abby Miller recorded an impressive double-double, finishing with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks while anchoring Central Lake in the paint. Her presence on the glass and as a rim protector helped keep Inland Lakes from pulling away earlier in the game.
In the backcourt, Joelyssa Hayden matched Miller with 10 points and added 4 rebounds and 3 assists, providing steady offense and playmaking throughout the night. Myla Hibbard contributed 8 points and 2 assists, giving Central Lake another reliable scoring option. Aspen Evans added 6 points and 5 rebounds, battling on the boards to support the frontcourt effort.
Central Lake also received contributions from its role players. Charlie Goltz scored 2 points, while Maleeya Hibbard impacted multiple areas of the box score with 2 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Their efforts helped the Trojans remain competitive through the first three quarters despite the shortened rotation.
Although the final score favored Inland Lakes, the contest demonstrated Central Lake’s resilience and commitment to competing under challenging circumstances. With strong individual performances and stretches of solid team play, the Trojans established points of emphasis to build upon as they prepare for the next phase of their schedule.
Central Lake will host Pellston on Thursday for Senior Night before traveling to Bellaire next Wednesday to take on the Eagles in the District Semi-Final. Gametime is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Bellaire. Tickets are available on GoFan.
