Arcs Dominate in Home Opener Against Richmond Heights
The Brush boys' basketball team, opened its home season with a commanding 57-42 victory over the Richmond Heights Spartans on Friday. The game began competitively, with both teams showcasing strong defense and offense, but the Arcs managed to secure a three-point lead by halftime, leading 22-19 thanks in part to nine points from senior Jay Gilchrist. Prince Ryleigh-Johnson dropped in a game-high 20 points, 16 of which he added in the second half, including eight crucial points in the fourth quarter. The second half was a showcase of Brush’s growing dominance as Gilchrist and Reggie Smith escalated their performances. Gilchrist, aside from being a top scorer with 13 points, tied with Ryleigh-Johnson for top assists at three each. Smith, not only contributing 10 points all in the second half, was a force on the boards, grabbing 12 rebounds, including five offensive. The Arcs capitalized significantly in the paint, outscoring the Spartans 42-18 and leading in second chance points 16-10, which was pivotal to their win. This victory brings the Arcs' season record to 2-2. They look to carry this performance into their next game, hosting the Bedford Bearcats on Tuesday at Welser Gym.
