Brush High School Arcs Narrowly Defeat Bedford Bearcats in Thrilling Football Encounter

The Brush Arcs fell just short on Friday night, dropping a tough 14-13 decision to the Bedford Bearcats in front of a packed home crowd. The loss evens Brush’s record at 2-2 on the season. The Arcs struck quickly, as senior running back Aiden O’Neal broke free for an electrifying 80-yard touchdown run on the opening possession. The run marked O’Neal’s third touchdown of 80 yards or more in the past two games. Unfortunately for Brush, O’Neal was sidelined shortly after with an injury, and the offense struggled to find rhythm without their playmaker. With the game tied 7-7 early in the fourth quarter, quarterback Jay Gilchrist muscled into the end zone from one yard out to give Brush the lead. But the missed extra point left the score at 13-7, setting the stage for Bedford’s late comeback. Bearcats quarterback Kensten Staten proved to be the difference, leading a methodical drive on Bedford’s final possession. Staten capped it off with a 5-yard touchdown run with 1:55 remaining, and the extra point put the Bearcats on top 14-13. Brush had one last chance and moved the ball into scoring position in the closing seconds, but Gilchrist’s end-zone pass was intercepted to seal the Bearcats’ victory. The Arcs will look to bounce back next week as they travel to Akron Hoban.
