Laurel ended a wild extra-inning softball game with a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth Monday, handing Charles F. Brush a 16-15 loss after the Lady Arcs erased deficits and answered rallies throughout the afternoon.

The decisive moment came after Brush battled back to force the extra frame in a game packed with timely hits, aggressive baserunning and constant lead changes. Laurel's Brooke Barragate broke a 15-15 tie with the game-winning hit in the eighth, ending an offensive showcase that produced 29 runs and 26 combined hits. The loss dropped Brush to 2-3, while Laurel moved to 3-3.

Brush's offense turned in one of its best performances of the season. Zayshelle Frierson led the way by reaching base in all five plate appearances. The center fielder delivered the Arcs' biggest swing in the third inning, a three-run home run to center that capped a five-run outburst and pushed Brush in front 11-9. Frierson finished with five RBIs and three stolen bases. Raia Ross also sparked the lineup, going 4-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and four stolen bases from the top of the order.

The Lady Arcs scored quickly in the first inning on RBI hits from Yanni Ramsey, Frierson and Leah James. Laurel answered to take a 4-3 lead after one inning, but Brush surged back in the second. Ross stole home during a three-run frame as the Arcs regained control before the Gators responded again with five runs in the bottom half for a 9-6 advantage. Brush answered immediately in the third, using Frierson's homer to reclaim the lead.

The game stayed tight the rest of the way. Brush built a 15-12 lead with clutch contributions from Ramsey, Frierson and Mackenzie Griffin, but Laurel tied the game in the sixth and again in the seventh to extend the contest. On the bases, the Arcs constantly pressured Laurel's defense, piling up 16 stolen bases. James, Frierson, Ross, Ramsey and Griffin all helped fuel that running game.

In the circle, Brush leaned on Jeida Gardner for six innings of relief. Gardner struck out seven and allowed seven runs, though only two were earned, after Nyla Ross started and worked through a difficult opening inning. Laurel's lineup also produced throughout the game, with Mia Kwon, Ellie Greenwalt and Kemy Cistone recording three hits apiece and Taryn Goedecke driving in three runs.

Brush now turns its attention to the next opportunity, a road game at Beachwood scheduled for Tuesday at 5 p.m., after a performance that showed the Lady Arcs can match up offensively with anyone even in a tough extra-inning defeat.
