Charlotte High School Announces New Football Staff Additions and Role Changes

Charlotte High School has finalized several additions and role changes on its football staff, bringing Chad McClintock, Scott Kirchen, Collin Garn and Justin VanAlstine into key leadership positions for the Orioles program. McClintock will serve as assistant head coach, Kirchen moves into the offensive coordinator role, Garn will be pass game coordinator and VanAlstine returns to the staff as special teams coordinator. Together, the group adds a mix of returning experience, continuity within the program and long-standing ties to Charlotte football.

McClintock rejoins the staff after a one-year hiatus, during which he served as associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Maple Valley. He previously worked as Charlotte’s co-defensive coordinator from 2021 through 2024 and returns with deep familiarity with the program and community. A Charlotte native, McClintock will assist with game planning on both sides of the ball while also coaching the offensive and defensive linemen. He also serves as a special education teacher and is married with two children, Josie, 4, and Jordan, 2. His stated focus in coaching is to help players become better men, compete at a high level and be part of something bigger than themselves.

Kirchen brings two decades of coaching experience in Charlotte into his new role as offensive coordinator. Over the years, he has served as running backs coach, JV head coach and JV offensive coordinator, giving him broad experience across the program. In his new position, Kirchen will lead play-calling duties and focus on building an offense that produces touchdowns. He has said his coaching motivation comes from wanting to provide the same positive impact his own coaches had on him and to help young people reach their full potential. Kirchen is married, has three children, recently welcomed his first grandchild and operates his own business in town.

Garn, a former Charlotte quarterback, also brings continuity to the Orioles staff. He has remained involved with the program since his playing days and has coached for the past nine seasons. As pass game coordinator, Garn will work to develop the passing attack and overall quarterback play. He said football taught him life lessons that extended beyond the field, including discipline, grit, teamwork and how to respond to failure. Outside of coaching, Garn works as an insurance agent with David Chapman Agency.

VanAlstine returns to the staff after previously coaching during the first year of the current program. He stepped away to coach his youngest son, Drew, through the youth ranks in both Charlotte and Maple Valley, including a year with the Mighty Mites, where VanAlstine once played under Hall of Fame coach Guenther Mittelstaedt. In his new role as special teams coordinator, he will focus on restoring big-play production in the kicking game. VanAlstine is married with three children and is a local business owner and electrical contractor. His coaching purpose, he said, is to help young people have a positive experience through football.
