PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Cornell improved by three strokes in the second round and stood tied for 14th as the final round of the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate set for Sunday. The Big Red followed an opening 301 with a 298 for a 36-hole total of 599, 31 over par, with Tyler Debusschere leading the lineup at 3 over.
Debusschere delivered Cornell’s low score in both rounds Saturday. He opened with a 73 and followed with an even-par 72 for a two-round total of 145. Debusschere then made par on his first hole of the third round to remain tied for 22nd in the individual standings.
Shep Davis provided Cornell’s next-lowest total, improving from a first-round 75 to a 74 in the second for a 149. Adithya Venkataraghavan made the largest round-to-round improvement in the Big Red lineup, cutting four strokes from an opening 78 to a second-round 74. He completed 36 holes at 152 before playing his opening hole of the third round at even par.
TJ Betlow contributed rounds of 75 and 78 for a two-round total of 153. He also opened the third round with a par. Javier Benerofe recorded matching rounds of 80 for a 160 total and was scheduled to begin the final round from Hole 15A.
Cornell’s 298 moved the Big Red into a tie with Brown, which reached 599 with rounds of 300 and 299. Long Island University held the team lead at 3 under with a 565 total after rounds of 280 and 285. Bryant was second after rounds of 284 and 286, while Farleigh Dickinson and Iona followed at 3 over and 4 over, respectively.
Sacred Heart’s Ronan Mooney topped the individual field at 9 under after opening with a 63 and adding a 70 for a 133 total. The standings remained in progress, with most teams between zero and one hole into the third round. Cornell will next travel to the Macdonald Cup in New Haven, Connecticut, on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 6 p.m. EDT.
