The Drury Panthers secured a commanding victory over the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos with a 6-2 win in game 2 of their opening regular season weekend at Brightspeed Ice Park. The Panthers established an early lead, closing the first period 1-0 thanks to Taylor Haggerty's first college goal. The momentum continued into the second period, where Drury expanded their lead to 3-1 on goals from Grady Sterling-Ponech, first college goal, and Matthew Johnston's first of the season. In the third period, the Panthers' offense came to life, with goals from K-T Walters, Anmol Garcha, and Luke Aston, who pushed the final score to an impressive 6-2. Notably, Walters, along with Aston, also contributed significant assists during the game. Brett Sweet was solid in net, picking up his first win of the season. Drury’s head coach Jeremy Law commented on the performance, emphasizing the intensity of the competition and acknowledging that while it was a good start, there remains room for improvement. Looking forward, the Panthers are set to face the University of Louisville Cardinals on Sept. 12, back at the Brightspeed Ice Park. They enter this game with an early-season record of 2-0-0, positioning them as a team to watch as the season progresses.
