Scales Earns First Team All-Ohio With 21st-Place State Finish

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - Elijah Scales led Emmanuel Christian Academy’s showing at the Division IV boys state cross country championships with a 21st-place finish in 16:19.8 on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Fortress Obetz. The performance earned him First Team All-Ohio honors.
Competing as an individual qualifier, Scales represented the Lions in his third consecutive state championship meet. His previous two appearances came as part of Emmanuel Christian’s qualifying teams in 2024 and 2025. This time, he took the starting line as an individual in overcast conditions with a temperature of 48 degrees Fahrenheit.
Scales’ state-meet progression began with a 128th-place finish in 17:21.17 in 2024. He made a substantial jump in 2025, moving up to 36th in 16:32.11 and earning Second Team All-Ohio recognition.
Saturday brought another step forward, as Scales moved up 15 places from his 2025 finish and advanced from Second Team to First Team All-Ohio. His latest result gave him his fastest time and highest finish across his three state championship appearances.
