Gahanna Lincoln High School boys bowling made a powerful statement at the Winter Shootout on Saturday at Palace Lanes, rolling to a 4,351 pinfall and shattering the school record for a Baker game with a blistering 289 in the opening Baker. In a field of 32 boys teams, the Lions combined consistency in regular games with explosive Baker performances, averaging 201 in regulation play and an impressive 221 in Baker games.
The Lions set the tone early, edging out the field by the slimmest of margins after the first game. Gahanna Lincoln posted a 1,048 opener, good enough for the top spot by just a single pin, 1,048–1,047. The team followed with games of 1,001 and 975 in the second and third regular games, staying firmly in contention in a deep and competitive field.
The true turning point came when the format shifted to Bakers. In the first Baker game, Gahanna Lincoln erupted for a 289, a performance that did far more than swing momentum — it rewrote program history. The 289 shattered the previous school record by 10 pins, breaking a mark that had stood since 2018. That record-breaking frame energized the entire roster and became the emotional spark that carried the Lions through the rest of the Baker block.
Individually, the Lions were led by standout efforts across the lineup. Kael Clous delivered one of the day’s premier performances, earning a spot on the all-tournament team with a stellar three-game series of 681. Clous’s steady scoring helped anchor the lineup and gave the Lions a reliable scoring engine during the regular-game portion of the event.
Will Gray also turned in a strong series, posting a 644 behind games of 241, 199 and 204. His 241 opener helped fuel the Lions’ narrow early lead and set a confident tone for the rest of the block. Gray’s ability to maintain competitive scores across all three games underscored the team’s overall balance and depth.
The Lions also benefited from key contributions off the bench, particularly during the historic Baker run. Philip Boswell entered cold for that first Baker game after spending the early portion of the event supporting his teammates from the sideline. Once called upon, Boswell responded in clutch fashion, delivering two strikes in the record-setting 289 game and playing a pivotal role in one of the most memorable Baker performances in program history.
From top-to-bottom scoring to record-breaking Baker play, Gahanna Lincoln showcased the kind of talent, resilience and chemistry that builds championship-level expectations.
