Unity Seats to Bring Community Together at Lake Fenton-Owosso Football Game
As we mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the Office of Genesee County Sheriff is proud to partner with Lake Fenton High School and US United for a special event focused on remembrance, reflection, and unity.
At the Lake Fenton football game against Owosso on Friday, September 11, 2026, we will join together to honor the lives lost on that tragic day, recognize the courage and sacrifice of the first responders and everyday citizens, and reflect on the spirit of unity that brought our country together in the days that followed.
Following the game’s coin toss, there will be a moment of silence and the presentation of the colors by the Office of Genesee County Sheriff Honor Guard.
As part of the event, Lake Fenton High School has provided Unity Seats through US United’s national initiative. These seats will be given to several diverse members of the community, and they carry a simple message: we do not have to agree on everything to sit together, listen to one another, and treat each other with dignity and respect.
Twenty-five years later, we remember those we lost while challenging ourselves to carry forward the unity, compassion, and humanity that emerged in the face of tragedy. We hope this event serves as a reminder that even when differences exist, there is always room to come together as neighbors and as a community.
