Mt. Vernon Rams and Carbondale Terriers Unite Community for Friday Night Lights

Friday Night Lights will carry added significance when the Mt. Vernon Rams face the Carbondale Terriers at 6 p.m. CDT Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, at Mt Vernon. The matchup, bringing the Rams together with the team representing Carbondale Terriers, will provide the setting for a US United Unity Seats experience on the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office will join US United, Sheriff Bullard, law enforcement agencies and fire departments for an evening centered on remembrance and community connection. MVTHS students, administrators and teachers will stand alongside area first responders in a visible showing of unity, reflecting the strength that grows when neighbors gather around a shared purpose.

Unity Seats brings law enforcement leaders and community members together at sporting events, with the Sheriff’s Office helping create a welcoming space for connection. Sharing the experience of a football game encourages natural conversations, strengthens community relationships, and builds connections that can continue well beyond the event.

Those attending can expect a fun-filled night of high school football combined with a respectful tribute to the victims, survivors, first responders and military members connected to September 11. The energy surrounding the Rams and Terriers will be balanced with moments of reflection, giving students, families, educators and public servants a chance to honor sacrifice together.
