The Bulldogs turned one touchdown into a game-changing second-quarter surge Friday, recovering an onside kick and scoring 22 unanswered points to defeat Chipley 22-10 at Liberty County High School in Bristol, FL. The victory belonged to both sides of the ball, as the offense erased an early 10-point deficit before the defense shut out the Tigers the second half.
Chipley capitalized on an interception during the Bulldogs’ opening possession, with a roughing-the-kicker penalty helping the Tigers produce a field goal. A 66-yard punt return for a touchdown then stretched Chipley’s advantage to 10-0. The Bulldogs answered at 8:13 of the second quarter, marching 79 yards in nine plays and finishing the drive with a 2-yard quarterback scramble by Wylder Harr. Lucas Sykes completed the conversion to cut the deficit to 10-8.
The Bulldogs immediately pressed their advantage. Cesar Lopezdelivered an onside kick that Chace Kever recovered at the Chipley 27-yard line, giving the offense another opportunity. Five plays later, quarterback Wylder Harr scored on a 1-yard sneak with 5:46 remaining, and Cesar Lopezadded the extra point for a 15-10 lead. After a defensive stop, L. Lucas Sykes turned a screen pass into a 21-yard touchdown with 1:22 left in the half. The ensuing extra point sent the Bulldogs into halftime ahead 22-10.
Wylder Harrcompleted 6 of 12 passes for 69 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 58 yards and two scores. The Bulldogs finished with 193 total yards, including 103 on the ground and 90 through the air. The three-touchdown quarter provided all the offense needed after Chipley had seized the early momentum.
A 30-minute weather delay extended halftime amid thunderstorm conditions, but the interruption did not slow the Bulldogs’ defense. Liberty County limited Chipley to 56 total yards, just 40 passing and 16 rushing, while recording two turnovers. Dylan Gunn led the tackle production with 13, Chace Kever collected 12 tackles and a tackle for loss, and Greg Pierce added seven tackles. Ashdon Tranquille delivered a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and an interception, including two crucial fourth-quarter takeaways that helped preserve the shutout after halftime.
