Excavation and Site Work Set Foundation for New Huntington Bank Field
Major site preparation is underway for the new Huntington Bank Field in Brook Park, beginning a multiyear construction effort expected to create thousands of jobs and transform a 176-acre site.
Independence Excavating, a contractor with a long history of employing Building Laborers Local 310 members on major Northeast Ohio construction projects, is performing extensive excavation and sitework operations.
Michel’s Foundations is also involved in the project, bringing its expertise in deep foundation construction and specialized foundation work to this massive undertaking.
The early phase carries an enormous scope. Plans call for excavation reaching approximately 80 feet below ground and the movement of nearly 2 million cubic yards of dirt. About 70% of the stadium’s seating will be below ground, making excavation, foundation work, and site preparation critical steps toward building the 67,500-seat enclosed venue, which will also include approximately 2,500 standing-room spaces.
The April 30 groundbreaking marked the formal start of a project scheduled to open in 2029 alongside Phase 1 of the surrounding mixed-use development. The stadium will feature a translucent roof designed for year-round use. At the ceremony, Dee Haslam said construction would create more than 6,000 jobs, with 75% of the workforce expected to be local.
Projects of this magnitude demonstrate the importance of skilled construction labor and the men and women who perform this demanding work every day. From moving millions of cubic yards of earth to constructing the foundations that will support this massive structure, these workers are laying the groundwork for one of Northeast Ohio’s largest construction projects.
For Building Laborers Local 310, this represents another opportunity for our hardworking members to demonstrate the skill, professionalism, and craftsmanship that go into building our region’s future.
Built by skilled hands. Built by local labor. Built for Northeast Ohio.
