Lyndhurst Police Department Celebrates Dispatchers During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

In recognition of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, held from April 13th to 19th, the Lyndhurst Police Department is celebrating the essential services provided by its dedicated dispatchers. This week shines a spotlight on the dispatchers who serve as a crucial link in emergency response, expertly handling calls and ensuring timely assistance from the Lyndhurst Police and Fire departments. These professionals are recognized for their role as the first point of contact during emergencies, providing a calm presence and critical guidance to both callers in distress and first responders in the field. The week is dedicated to honoring these 'unsung heroes' who contribute significantly to public safety through their commitment and expertise in managing high-pressure scenarios with precision. Chief Pat Rhode of the Lyndhurst Police Department emphasized the critical role of dispatchers in the public safety network, stating, "Our Dispatchers are the first line of defense in everything that we do...they are the first voice someone hears when they call the police department in search of help and they are the first voice our officers hear when they call for help. They are truly our unsung heroes!" The Lyndhurst Police & Fire Administrations provided each dispatcher with small tokens of appreciation - including a festively decorated communications center and a 'dress down' week - to underscore the vital contribution they provide to community safety, ensuring that their efforts are recognized and celebrated.
