SALEM, Ore. - North Salem converted a late first-half opportunity and relied on several crucial saves to defeat Grants Pass 1-0 on Tuesday night at North Salem High School. The Vikings’ lone goal before halftime proved decisive in the varsity boys soccer match.
Elijah Nole delivered a standout one-goal performance for North Salem. The breakthrough came when Elijah scored with eight minutes left in the first half, giving the Vikings a 1-0 advantage they carried into halftime. No assist was listed on the scoring play.
North Salem’s work in goal was just as important as the finish at the other end. Cruz Romero Garibay had an outstanding match as goalkeeper, making several game-saving stops that kept Grants Pass off the scoreboard. Romero had multiple masterful saves as the Vikings protected their narrow advantage.
With neither team scoring after halftime, every defensive intervention became more significant. North Salem maintained its organization, handled Grants Pass’ attempts to find an equalizer and completed the clean sheet. The performance allowed the Vikings to turn their first-half goal into a hard-earned home victory.
The Vikings will return to action on the road against Lakeridge at 7 p.m. PDT Thursday, Sept. 3.
