Otero College Rattlers Volleyball Looks Ahead to the 2025 Season

As the Otero College Rattlers gear up for their 2025 volleyball season, all eyes are on Head Coach Rick Brown, who enters his second year with a career coaching record of 21-42. With a roster that says goodbye to seven key players, including star Claire Johnson, who was placed on the All-Region Team last season, the Rattlers aim to rebuild and advance beyond their previous 6-28 record.

The Rattlers' season is packed with challenging competitions. Kicking off with multiple scrimmages on August 16 at Sterling, CO against formidable opponents like Central Wyoming College and Casper College, they then face a rigorous schedule through October, including Sophomore Day on October 11 against McCook Community College at La Junta, Colo. The team's home matches at the McDivitt Center include numerous critical games against conference rivals such as Trinidad State College and Western Nebraska Community College.

Coach Brown shared his optimism despite the youthful roster, stressing the importance of community support and personal development for his players. "Expecting a lot from this young group. We want to draw on the support of our community, and have Otero College be the place they develop as young ladies, lifelong friends, and community members," said Coach Brown. The Rattlers have set the academic bar high as well, with the team earning a GPA Award for a team GPA of 3.2 last year.

As the Rattlers prepare for an intense season, the blend of new talents and rigorous upcoming matches are likely to test their resilience and growth under Coach Brown's guidance.
