Otero Wrestling Narrowly Defeated by Northeastern in Tense Dual Meet

In Region IX dual meet on February 5, 2025, Otero College's wrestling team, the Rattlers, faced off against the Plainsmen of Northeastern Junior College at home. Despite their relentless effort, the Rattlers were edged out by a close score of 25-28. Joe Zamora was a standout performer for Otero, achieving a technical fall in just over 4 minutes. Kaleb Cooper and Griffin LaRue also notched impressive wins, securing victories through pins, energizing the home crowd. Key bouts included Zamora's dominant 15-0 tech fall against Teagan Jacobs, Cooper's rapid pin of Cassius Garcia at 1:37, and LaRue's decisive fall over Martin Renteria at 6:28. While the result was not in Otero’s favor, the individual performances highlighted the skill and tenacity of the Rattlers. Frederico Luna and Riley Robinson also contributed significantly, with Luna securing a 14-11 decision and Robinson another strong tech fall win. Despite the loss, the Otero College wrestling community can be proud of the exceptional skills and spirit demonstrated by the Rattlers. This dual meet showcased not only the talent within the team but also set the stage for future successes.
