Region 9 Standout: Otero’s Itxasne “Chazz” Fernandez Arguello Powers the Rattlers

When the Rattlers Women’s Basketball team needs a bucket they turn to Itxasne “Chazz” Fernandez Arguello. The versatile forward has emerged as one of Region 9’s most dynamic forces, and her latest honor – Region 9 Player of the Week – is proof that the rest of the conference is taking notice.

During the week of January 25–31, Chazz put together a stretch of basketball that would make any program proud. She averaged an incredible 31 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4 assists, 1.5 steals, and 2.5 blocks per game, while shooting 63 percent from the field and 44 percent from beyond the arc. She didn’t just score in bunches; she did it efficiently and in the biggest moments, leading the Rattlers to two victories and setting the tone on both ends of the floor.

Her performance was especially dominant in a Saturday matchup with Lamar, where she poured in 31 points and added 13 rebounds to secure a double-double. Whether attacking the rim, stepping out to knock down threes, or protecting the paint on defense, Chazz showcased the complete game that has made her such a matchup problem for opponents. Those numbers weren’t empty stats – they were the foundation of wins, momentum, and belief for an Otero team chasing big goals.

What makes this latest award even more special is that it’s not a one-time breakout. This is the second time Chazz has earned Region 9 Player of the Week honors, a testament to her consistency and growth.
