Lakers’ Ground Game, Three Interceptions Highlight 21-20 Loss to Parkway Christian

Parkway Christian edged Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School 21-20 on Friday, Sept. 18, with a single point providing the decisive margin. The Lakers finished with 323 total yards and scored three rushing touchdowns, but their productive ground game and three defensive takeaways were not enough to overcome Parkway Christian.

The Lakers built their offense around a rushing attack that produced 290 yards and helped generate 14 first downs. Setrse led the way with 156 rushing yards and one touchdown. Jose Valdovinos added 82 yards on the ground, while Asai scored two rushing touchdowns to account for the Lakers’ other trips to the end zone.

Our Lady of the Lakes also created opportunities on defense by intercepting three Parkway Christian passes. Valdovinos, Blake Chestnut and Riley Jones each recorded an interception, giving the Lakers a series of momentum-changing plays in a game that remained separated by the narrowest possible margin.

Jones anchored the defense with a team-high 13 tackles in addition to his interception. Valdovinos delivered a strong all-around performance with nine tackles to go with his interception and 82 rushing yards. Asai made eight tackles, Vincent Townsend finished with seven, and Chestnut contributed seven tackles alongside his takeaway.

The Lakers’ ability to run for 290 yards, move the chains 14 times and force three turnovers provided several positives despite the one-point result. Our Lady of the Lakes will next travel to face Cardinal Mooney Catholic at 1 p.m. EDT Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026.
