Miller’s Late Goal Lifts Wildcats Past DeSales, 2-1

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Silas Miller scored 1:33 after DeSales equalized, lifting Penn College to a 2-1 victory over DeSales on Friday at UPMC Field. The Wildcats improved to 1-0-1. DeSales is 0-1-0.
How it happened: DeSales had an early chance to take control, but Larry Sullivan sent a penalty kick wide at 1:21. Hunter Gabloff delivered Penn College’s first shot on goal at 15:25, forcing a save by Colin Hojnowski. Justin Crismale stopped Landon Lentz’s attempt at 33:08 to help keep the teams level heading into the second half.
Scott Goldfeder broke the tie with a penalty-kick goal at 46:21, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage shortly after the restart. Penn College continued to test Hojnowski, who saved Logan Berfield’s shot at 59:17. DeSales drew even at 75:25 when Mike McCurry scored off Abu Barrie’s assist, but Justin Boring set up Miller’s quick response for the decisive goal.
Inside the box: Crismale finished with four saves in 90 minutes, including a stop against Jacob Stewart at 87:27 that preserved the one-goal lead. Miller also played the full match and finished with two shots, while Goldfeder scored on one of his two attempts. Gabloff put both of his shots on target, and Diego Diaz led the Wildcats with four attempts, including one on goal.
Penn College put seven of its 15 shots on goal, compared with five of DeSales’ 17 attempts. DeSales held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks, while Hojnowski made five saves. Up next: The Wildcats make a quick turnaround to play Saturday, Sept. 5, at Susquehanna, 1 p.m.
