Seaside Adjusts Lineup for Key League Match Against Scappoose

Seaside will face an important early-season test when it hosts Scappoose at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Seaside High School. The league match gives the 4-4 Seagulls a chance to measure their progress against a 6-3 Scappoose team that has established itself as a strong 4A program. A victory would move Seaside above .500 and could provide a boost in the rankings.

The Seagulls enter the matchup stronger and more experienced after navigating two difficult seasons with underclassmen filling much of the starting lineup. That experience has started to show this fall, but Seaside will have to adjust against Scappoose. Starting libero Chloe Baker is unavailable because of a knee injury, leaving the Seagulls to reorganize their back-row rotation against an opponent with a height advantage and an upperclassman-led lineup.

Jahzara Marshall will be central to Seaside’s attack. The setter has opened the season in strong form and will be responsible for keeping the offense organized while finding favorable matchups at the net. Scappoose’s size could make serve receive and tempo especially important. Clean first contacts would allow Marshall to distribute the ball quickly and make it more difficult for the visitors to establish their block.

Olyvia Morse also takes on added importance with Baker sidelined. Morse has been a leading presence in the back row, and Seaside will need her passing and defensive coverage to steady the lineup. Limiting extended Scappoose runs, serving aggressively and turning defensive touches into controlled attacks could give the Seagulls a path to a significant home result. After Wednesday’s match, Seaside will travel to face Tillamook at 6:15 p.m. PDT Tuesday, Sept. 29.
