Seaside Faces Valley Catholic in League Volleyball Rematch
Seaside High School faces Valley Catholic on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 6:15 p.m. PDT in Beaverton, with league standings at stake in the volleyball rematch. Valley Catholic won the teams’ Sept. 17 meeting 3-0. For Seaside, the challenge is to turn that previous result into a more competitive second meeting.
Outside hitter Tiera Spivey is a player to watch for Seaside. Her position puts her at the center of a key tactical question: Can Seaside create enough attacking options to keep Valley Catholic’s block from focusing on the outside? Consistent first contacts would give Seaside more choices rather than forcing predictable swings.
Libero Olyvia Morse gives Seaside another important player to watch, particularly in serve reception and backcourt defense. Her role connects those phases: A controlled pass can help launch the offense, while a dig can create another attacking chance. Extending rallies would give Seaside opportunities to make Valley Catholic defend beyond its first attack.
Across the net, Valley Catholic middle blocker Maeve Albert presents a matchup to monitor. Seaside’s ability to move the ball and vary its attack could be important against a middle blocker positioned to close space at the net. Serving pressure offers another tactical avenue: Disrupting Valley Catholic’s first pass could make its middle attack harder to establish and simplify Seaside’s defensive assignments.
