Seaside Hosts Valley Catholic With Cowapa League Stakes in Focus

Seaside High School hosts Valley Catholic in boys soccer at 7 p.m. PDT Thursday, Oct. 1, in Seaside, with both teams facing an important Cowapa League test. Seaside seeks its first league victory, while Valley Catholic can move into first place with a win, giving the matchup implications at both ends of the standings.

For Seaside, the match carries must-win urgency after a 6-0 loss to Tillamook in its previous outing. The immediate challenge is twofold: tighten the defense after conceding six goals and build an attack capable of producing a response following the shutout. The teams last competed in the same league during the 2021-22 season, adding context to a meeting that could help shape this season’s Cowapa race.

Midfielder Alejandro Fabian Garcia, No. 8, and defender Christian Garcia, No. 23, are Seaside’s players to watch. Their roles put the midfield and defensive lines at the center of the tactical questions entering Thursday. For the hosts, connecting those units will be important to advancing possession without leaving the defense exposed. A stronger defensive showing and more effective movement through midfield are priorities following the Tillamook result.

Valley Catholic’s key players include midfielder Nahil Guteta, No. 11, and defender Aiden Leo, No. 5. Guteta’s midfield matchup with Seaside’s No. 8 is one area to watch, while Leo gives the hosts a defender to account for as they look to create chances. Seaside’s ability to compete in those areas will be central to its pursuit of a first league win and its effort to keep Valley Catholic from taking over first place.
