Seaside Seeks Season-Ending Win in Rematch With No. 6 Banks
Seaside High School (3-8-2) visits Banks (8-4-1) in girls soccer at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, seeking a win in its final game of the season and a reversal of an earlier loss to the Braves. Both teams’ records reflect results through Oct. 22. Before the rematch, the Seagulls are scheduled to visit Astoria on Oct. 27, while Banks visits Valley Catholic that day.
The matchup pits No. 25 Seaside against No. 6 Banks in the OSAA rankings. Banks has five league victories, while Seaside is searching for its first league win of the season. The Braves won the first meeting 5-0 at Seaside on Oct. 13, giving the Seagulls a clear defensive challenge heading into the return matchup.
Seaside’s results since that meeting include a 4-0 loss to Scappoose, a 1-1 draw with Tillamook/Neah-Kah-Nie and a scoreless draw with Valley Catholic. Alauna Raniero offers a way to connect defense with attack through her ability to win possession and make passes that create opportunities. Turning those recoveries into scoring chances will be a key storyline for a Seagulls team whose most recent victory was a 2-1 decision over St. Helens on Sept. 17.
Banks senior forward Payton Jewett provides an attacking presence for the Braves, making Seaside’s ability to disrupt service into the forward line another focal point. Since beating the Seagulls, Banks has defeated Tillamook/Neah-Kah-Nie 4-1, lost to Oregon Episcopal 10-2, drawn 0-0 with Astoria and fallen 1-0 to Scappoose. Those last two results leave the Braves looking to restart their scoring attack as they pursue a second win over Seaside.
