Eagles Compete, Glatt Lifts St. Edward Past Padua, 2-1
Senior Ethan Glatt broke a second-half tie with 19:56 remaining, lifting the St. Edward Eagles to a 2-1 victory over Padua Franciscan on Wednesday night at Br. James Everett, C.S.C. Stadium. The decisive goal rewarded an Eagles attack that created pressure throughout the match and repeatedly tested the Franciscan defense.
The teams played a gritty, evenly contested first half before senior, Henry Curtis V, opened the scoring for St. Edward at the 18:00 mark. The lead lasted only 42 seconds, as Padua answered for Bruins to level the match. Neither side added another goal before halftime, sending the teams into the break tied 1-1.
St. Edward generated several early scoring opportunities, but some attempts narrowly missed while others were stopped by strong saves from the Padua goalkeeper. The Eagles continued to apply pressure after halftime, and No. 6 Ethan Glatt finally broke through to put St. Edward ahead 2-1 with just under 20 minutes to play.
From there, the Eagles protected the one-goal advantage to secure the home victory.
The match began on a warm evening, though a cool breeze by game time helped ease the heat. St. Edward will host Erie Prep on Friday Night at home on a Varsity only match night that starts at 6:00pm.
